The tracks on Secrets & Words showcase China Soul’s richly expressive and distinctively soulful voice and the album is steeped in the sound of West-Coast 70′s folk-rock while still managing to feel vibrant and contemporary. Co-written with Blockheads legend Chaz Jankel, Secrets & Words draws on China’s inspiration from such artists as Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, and Tracy Chapman while feeling uniquely personal to her and Secrets & Words heralds the arrival of a special new talent on a record that is soulful to its very core.
We support David — and China too — so we’re including here, and soon in other areas of our fan site, direct links to the vendors from which China’s debut CD, Secrets & Words, may be purchased.
“Needless to say, I am extremely proud of this talented young woman — who also just happens to be my daughter. Her new album is a genuinely consummate piece of work. The reaction everywhere has been superb. Get it! You won’t be sorry. Thanks.” —David Soul, October 2010
As you can see from the above excerpt posted on David’s official website, and as you’ve heard in the radio spots featured here at DSF in which David and China have promoted her CD (the May 1st BBC Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday program AND the May 18th BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon program), David is very supportive of China as she launches what we’re sure will be a very successful music career.
For additional information about China and also lots of links to the amazing reviews she’s gotten and performances she’s given, please visit China’s official website. She’s a very classy and talented young lady, and we really enjoy her music. We know you will too.

Stumble and Fall

I bought China’s album when it first came out. The album is very unique, classy and quite remarkable.
If you want something interesting and funky this is it. Each song is very individual both in it’s music and in it’s words. China has written some of the songs herself and co written the others with Chaz Jankel. The lyrics reach out to you and really say something meaningful.
I love all the songs but my favourites must be :
Castles, Breathe, Where Trouble Comes, Whisper, Cold, In to The White, What My Baby Don’t Know, and Secrets and Words. I was lucky enough to see China play a live performance earlier this year and she was astounding.
The bonus track Stumble and Fall is lovely.
