Regarding the Starsky & Hutch 2004 movie starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson: In a word, I thought it sucked. It was a terrible film. I didn’t like it at all. It was not Starsky & Hutch; it was people playing at being Starsky & Hutch. Whatever humor we had was generally unforced humor. They really worked at it hard.
Also: First of all, I saw it as a compliment, and the other part of it is you feel like the train left the station and you’re not on it. … We spent one day on the set. It was really nice, though, I must say, walking onto the set, and the whole crew applauded when we walked on, and when we finished our day’s work, everyone applauded when we walked off. It was very nice. It doesn’t happen very often, you know?
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are simply The Heroes Of The Stupid. I could barely sit through that thing. The only thing to like was the cameo appearances of the REAL S&H…and the car.
Starsky & Hutch was and still is the Ultimate Partner Cop TV show for me. It captured the essence of the 70s even though I was very young when the show was on. I have the box set and I can’t tell you how many times I have grooved to that funky theme. The first them was cool too but the one after is Solid, ya dig? I can feel the friendship and brotherhood these 2 great actors give off when playing their parts.
As a kid I wanted that car and I loved Starsky’s sweater. I think I even had a Letterman Jacket at one time Like Hutch’s. The movie and most movies like this are just a means to get out a script and sell it buy prostituting a name we all know and love. With no hatred toward the actors in this terrible Fartsy and Hump movie, I say shame on the producers for letting that pig fly. I will always be a fan and will always have a nice warm place for David Starsky=Paul Michael Glaser & Kenneth Hutchinson= David Soul in my heart…
The film was a total disappointment. I got the impression that they were making fun of these beloved characters. The only good part of the film was David and Paul’s cameo appearance.
As David said, the humour on the series was unforced – the humour on the film was forced and fell flat.
I would love to see a film with David and Paul playing “Starsky and Hutch” at the age David and Paul are now. That would be amazing!
I didn’t like for the movie either. I thought it sucks, too. I thought the movie made them look like a joke. I love the original Starsky & Hutch TV series. Other actors will never take Paul and David’s place in Starsky & Hutch. They will always be my heroes.
I totally agree with him, although I really didn’t see the movie, I can just imagine what David said was true. Owen Wilson is such a far cry from the real character on the REAL show, its pathetic!
